With a history more than 5000 years old, Gujarat is one architecturally rich Indian state. The state has remnants of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation which is one of the prime features of the place. Laxmi Vilas Palace, Vadodara
One of the prime historical attractions in Vadodara, Laxmi Vilas Palace is a sight to behold. The palace was constructed in the year 1890 and is four-times the size of Buckingham Palace! The interior of the palace is absolutely incredible and in the Darbar Hall here you can still see the king’s throne.
Jama Masjid, Ahmedabad
Built in 1424 by Ahmed Shah I, Jama Masjid is one of the most prominent mosques in the country. It’s no less than an architectural marvel housing some very amazing ornate work. The whole thing is built using yellow sandstone. There’s also a massive courtyard here and the main prayer room features some incredible ornate pillars and 260 columns.
Sidi Sayeed Mosque, Ahmedabad
The Sidi Saiyyed Mosque is also known as Sidi Saiyyid ni Jali locally. Built in 1572-73 AD (Hijri year 980), is one of the most famous mosques of ...Just a few minutes’ walk from central Ahmedabad, Sidi Sayeed Mosque is another architectural marvel in Gujarat. Mahabat Maqbara, Junagadh
Junagadh is noted for Mahabat Maqbara, which is equivalent to the Taj Mahal in Agra. It looks absolutely stunning and was built by Nawab Mahabat Khan II between 1851 and 1882. It is also the mausoleum of Bahaduddinbhai Hasainbhai.
Diu Fort, Diu
This one grand fort in Gujarat’s Diu which was built by the Portuguese. The fort is noted for its grand architecture and interesting history. There’s also a pretty 16th century lighthouse there which is one of the prime features, and a historical landmark here.
Rani-ki-Vav, Patan
Located in the town of Patan in Gujarat, on the banks of the Saraswati River, Rani-ki-Vav is an incredible 11th century stepwell. It was included in the list of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites on June 22, 2014. The stepwell was constructed by Rani Udayamati, who was the widow of Bhimdev I (AD 1022 to 1063), around 1050 AD.
Sun Temple, Modhera
The Sun Temple in Modhera is a pure work of art. The Archaeological Survey of India protects and looks after the temple now. It’s an unmissable sight in Gujarat for history and art lovers. Dating back to 1026-27 CE, the temple has three complexes and all have a unique feature.
Dholavira
For history lovers and architecture enthusiasts, this place is a dream come true! It is among the finest archaeological sites associated with the Indus Valley Civilisation. Not only this, Dholavira is also one of the five largest Harappan sites in the world! Can’t miss it at any cost!
