Here’s what we miss when we skip exploring Agra Fort

Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the lesser sister of Taj Mahal, the star attraction in Agra. Located just 2.5 km from Taj Mahal, Agra Fort enjoys the quiet solitude which, at Taj Mahal, is a far cry. This imposing red sandstone fortress is compared to Delhi’s historic Red Fort. But what we forget is that Agra Fort has its own history and it should be known to all.

It is a historical fort with a rich and diverse story, one that talks about the brilliance of the Mughal era. Here are some of the most interesting things about Agra Fort that will inspire you to give this monument the attention that it deserves.

History of Agra Fort

Agra Fort, dating back to the 16th century, was originally built by Akbar the Great, the third Mughal emperor. This fort, for centuries, served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors. It has also witnessed a number of dynastic changes, some peaceful, some tumultuous.
