The lake area exchanged a couple of hands before finally coming back to the First Nations in October of 2001. Now, the land belongs to the Okanagan Nation Alliance Chiefs Executive Council, and the Syilx People are preserving quite efficiently the cultural and traditional heritage of this place.
The Spotted Lake is a big attraction mainly because of its unusual looks. During the summer season, most lakewater evaporates, leaving several small mineral-rich pools in its place. It looks like spots of water, hence the name. The colour of these pools differ due to the mineral composition of the soil and the water. It’s a spectacular sight to see.
