India is the land of folklore and legends. Some of these have emerged from horror stories surrounding some prominent railway stations. From inexplicable incidents and weird happenings, these stations have captured the imaginations of locals and visitors alike. Here are five of the most haunted railway stations in India:
Ludhiana Station, Punjab
Another supposedly haunted station in India, Ludhiana Station in Punjab has its share of ghostly tales. It is believed that the station is haunted by the spirit of a woman who died tragically on the platform. Visitors have also reported hearing cries and seeing apparitions, especially during the quiet hours of the night.
Barog Station, Himachal Pradesh
Barog Station might look beautiful from outside but it holds eerie tales in the dark railway tunnels. Set in the scenic hills of Himachal Pradesh, the railway station is surrounded by ghostly stories. Legend has it that Colonel Barog, the station's architect, committed suicide during its construction. Visitors also claim to have seen a ghost wandering around the tunnel near the station. Scary, right?
Begunkodor Station, West Bengal
Begunkodor Station’s setting is quite beautiful. It’s situated in the forests of West Bengal but is known for ghostly experiences. The story says that the station staff flee due to alleged ghostly encounters. Locals believe that the station is haunted by the spirit of a woman dressed in a white saree and that she walks along the tracks at night. From then, the station has been abandoned. It reopened after years, but tales of unexplained occurrences still persist.
Naini Station, Uttar Pradesh
Naini Station near Allahabad is known for its weird occurrences, particularly on full moon nights. Locals narrate tales of ghostly figures walking along the deserted platforms and disappearing into thin air. The station’s history and its proximity to the Ganga River contribute to its haunted reputation.
Chittoor Station, Andhra Pradesh
Chittoor Station in Andhra Pradesh is also believed to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who was killed on the railway tracks. Commuters and railway staff have reported hearing her cries late at night. It’s a scary atmosphere around the station.
