If a tranquil and luxurious weekend, surrounded by powder white beaches, curved coastline and endless turquoise blue waters is what you have in mind; Koh Samet ticks off all your requirements. Named after the Samet trees omnipresent on the island, Koh Samet is an absolute tropical paradise, just a short three-hour-drive from Bangkok. Although it was initially a backpacker’s paradise (parts of the island still cater to casual, midrange travellers) the accommodation on the island has been developed in the last few years to include some extremely decadent beachfront villas and luxury resorts. The nightlife remains legendary, and is a good way to spend your energy once you’ve sated your desire for relaxation through the day. Remember to book in advance, since weekends are usually chock-a-block with tourists.
