Goa beaches will soon have special zones for alcohol consumption

Those who were disheartened with the drinking ban in Goa can cheer up as it has been announced that beaches will have special dedicated zones, where people can drink alcohol. After banning the consumption of alcohol on the beaches in Goa for almost a year, the government has now decided to create special zones on Goa’s prominent beaches, where travellers and holidaymakers can enjoy liquor drinking and picnics.
Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar made the news official just a few days back at a press conference in Panaji. But he also mentioned that if anyone is caught drinking alcohol outside these dedicated zones on beaches, they would be fined INR 5000. He further said that when implementing the ban on drinking, they wish to create a special zone for picnics.
The minister said, “A lot of local groups want to have picnics along the beach and we have decided to keep spots along the beachside, one or two at each beach where those who want to go can go and drink - a picnic zone."
To see if the policy is being well implemented, these beaches will have police head constables and wardens and supervisors, who will have the power to fine people drinking alcohol outside these designated zones.
In January 2019, the Goan government had passed a law wherein drinking of alcohol in public places was banned in Goa. It also assured strict actions against drinking on beaches and other popular tourist hotspots in the gorgeous beach state. As per records, every year more than eight million tourists visit Goa from across the globe.
