The area that is usually referred to as Amed is actually a string of quiet beachside villages in the North Eastern coast of Bali that are a whole world away from the busy resorts in the South. The villages of Amed, Jemeluk, Bunutan, Lipah, Lean, Selang, Banyuning and Aas all have tourist facilities but the most popular are Jemeluk, Bunutan and Lipah. The accommodation and dining options are generally low key and quite budget friendly but there’s not much of a nightlife and shopping scene here. The beaches around Amed are usually black sand beaches but are still dramatic and beautiful and the area offers great snorkelling and diving. Amed is also a good base for climbing Gunung Agung which is especially spectacular at sunrise. Amed is also a good place just to escape, relax and get away from it all. Read less
