Funicular is a fun way to access the upper town of Zagreb from the lower town. Funicular is a kind of cable railways with the old world charm. It is a great way to climb up or down smaller heights. Zagreb Funicular connects the lower station located at the Tomićeva Street with Lotršćak Tower located in the upper town. Constructed in 1890, Zagreb Funicular is one of the oldest functional funiculars in Europe. Except the steam engine being replaced by an electrical one, the funicular still runs in its original shape every day since the last 120 years. It has received protection as a monument of culture from Zagreb authority. At an inclination of 52% and a track length of 66 m, it is the shortest and the steepest funicular in the world! Each ride can carry 28 passengers and takes 55 seconds to reach the top. This is considered the shortest cable ride in the world. Of course, the ride is not free but a must try in Zagreb. The short ride of funicular provides unique entertainment not only to kids but also to the grownups!
