Parque el Cubano

There are a couple of ways to reach Parque el Cubano, complete with a farm-style restaurant, a fish farm, stables and one heck of a refreshing waterfall. If you decide to trek to the park from Trinidad, expect to walk roughly 16 km round trip. If that distance seems overwhelming then go for the easier option—arrange for motor transport from the centre of the town. It costs approximately $9 to get into the park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just like Trinidad itself. The trail that leads you past numerous waterfalls and swimming spots is about 3.5 km in length and includes many ups and downs; therefore, visitors should make a note of it and be in good shape. Keep your eyes peeled for geckos and hummingbirds that call this place home, as well as numerous beehives that look more like stalactites than hives. Visitors should be aware of the fact that the waterfall temperature is a bit cooler than the sea and the water at the falls is too deep for non-swimmers or small children. The farm-style restaurant specialises in catfish and is the perfect place to stop for lunch.
