Chandratal Lake is one of the most popular spots in Spiti, which is visited by tons of people every year, mainly between the months of June and September. It has to be noted that the lake remains inaccessible for nearly eight months of the year, owing to its high altitude and heavy snowfall in winters.
As per the latest reports, the ecology of the lake, during the past few years, has started to degrade because of heavy intervention by people in this area. Earlier, residents used to set up camps near and around the lake for tourists. This resulted in accumulating kitchen waste and other garbage around these camps, which is now threatening the existence of the lake.
