There are numerous remains of rugged forts scattered along Goa’s coast and rivers. The most famous of them is Fort Aguada, located next to the Candolim beach. It was built in the 17th century by the Portuguese, as defense against invasions by the Marathas and the Dutch. Hike up to the fort for great views of the sea, especially at sunset. There’s also an old 19th-century lighthouse located on this hilltop, which offers even better views of the coastline.
