At 93, Joy Ryan becomes the oldest woman to explore all 63 national parks in the US

Age is just a number and Joy Ryan has just proved the fact! At 93, she has become the oldest woman to visit every national park in America. This cute grandma was not alone in her journey as her 42-year-old grandson Brad Ryan accompanied her to all 63 national parks in the country and today, both of them are enjoying an internet celebrity status.

It’s quite unbelievable but Joy had not seen mountains or ocean till she was 85 years old. A resident of Duncan Falls, Ohio, Joy was inspired by her grandson, Brad to travel in 2015.
In October 2022, Brad had talked to a local media channel and said, "When I learned she had never seen the great wildernesses of America – deserts, mountains, oceans, you name it – I thought that was something that would haunt me if I didn't intervene in some way."

Joy said that was done going "to the fishing hole." She said, "Every winter, my husband took me to Okeechobee and we fished. That was about the extent of my wandering". So
It was Brad who decided to take her to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (between North Carolina and Tennessee) for the first time. It was during that trip that the idea of visiting all US national parks hit them.

Brad was keen on taking his grandma to all the parks. So the duo planned their entire road trip, and after much planning they hit the road. Their journey was full of adventures and they had a lifetime experience watching whales in the Channel Islands and admiring the huge trees in the Redwood Forest.

Joy, a mother of three children and grandmother of four, also went hiking in the mountains. And it was all possible because of her optimistic approach. She also went white water rafting at 91 and was braver than her grandson.

Their last stop was the 63 national park which was the National Park of American Samoa. It's also the only national park in America which is south of the equator.
