The taluka of Salcete, along with those of Tiswadi (Panaji) and Bardez (Mapusa), was part of the Portuguese old conquests of Goa in 1543 CE. Subsequently, when the Portuguese started proselytising Salcete, it was accompanied by demolition of ancient heritage including temples. Many Hindus fled the region and some even managed to rescue their deity's idols. Most notably among those rescued were the idols of Shri Ramnath from his temple in Loutolim and that of Goddess Shantadurga from her temple in Cuncolim. Even after the Ramnath idol was moved to a new temple in Ponda, the Hindu minority in Loutolim continued to practice their faith at the original site. In 1957, they started an annual ritual of Satyanarayan Mahapooja and eventually in 2011 managed to install a Shiva Lingam at this original place of worship. The temple building, located north from the Church of Savior of the World, is a modest beginning and the organizers today seek donations to resurrect it to its original glory.
Tip:
Being a majorly Christian region, not every local in Loutolim may know about this site of Ramnath Temple. Thus, if you are seeking directions, ask for Figueiredo's Mansion, Ramnath Temple is on the way.
