Travel advisory: cyclone to cause heavy rain in parts of Gujarat on June 12, 13

Gujarat is a vibrant state known for its versatile culture. It is also one of the most tourist-friendly destinations in India. However, the coastal part of Gujarat might soon be under the onslaught of heavy rains due to a fast-approaching cyclone called Vayu.
According to the Met Department, a cyclone is gathering momentum in the Arabian Sea. Although, the cyclone spells no danger for the rest of the Indian coastline, a portion of Gujarat’s coastal areas is likely to face heavy rainfall on June 12 and 13, 2019.

Destinations that stand strong chances of being coming under the cyclonic effect are Jamnagar, Porbandar, Okha, Veraval, Dwarka and Naliya.
This year in the first week of May, Odisha had to grapple with the devastating effects of a cyclonic storm known as Fani. As a result, about 64 people were killed and many were forced to leave the coastal areas due to the destructive forces unleashed by the cyclone. The government authorities recorded loss of INR 9,000 crore caused by the cyclone. Fani was a powerful cyclone that came from a tropical depression formed towards west of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean.

However, the cyclone approaching Gujarat’s coast such as Kutch and Saurashtra will also affect Kerala, coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa along with causing rainfall in Karachi.

Porbandar, Dwarka, Kutch, Jamnagar and Saurashtra are the most popular and highly touristy places in Gujarat. While, the Rann of Kutch is visited for its magically white land, Dwarka is thronged by pilgrims for the sake of Krishna temple located on the banks of Gomti river.
