The Katmai National Park Alaska is home to some beautiful bears and forests, lakes, and mountains. It is here where one of the most interesting annual competitions is held; we are hinting at the Fat Bear Week. It kicks off today and, by the end of it, one of the bears will win the title of the fattest bear in the Brook River 2020.
The Brooks River here is a river full of sockeye salmon, and bears can never go hungry as they are plentiful. The park is home to about 2000 brown bears, who can weigh anything between 600 and 900 pounds. The bears eat about 90 pounds of food each day in preparation for the coming months, when they can be in hibernation for about half a year. Their food of choice are salmon, small mammals, berries, flowers, and herbs.
As of now, the defending champion is Holly.
