India is not only known for its beautiful landscape, but is also blessed with several unique places. Interestingly, each such place has its own unique story to tell. Today, we take you to one such village in Rajasthan, which is famed for setting a brilliant example by saving girl children, while increasing the green cover as well.
If records are to go by, it’s a custom to plant 111 saplings in the village every time a girl child is born. This unique village goes by the name Piplantri, where people also ensure that the planted trees survive, and grow as the girls also grow up. Reportedly, this initiative was primarily launched to take care of two major social issues, i.e., afforestation and empowerment of girl child. People here have been practising this for 15 long years, which has further helped the village to increase its green cover.

This practice has, in an unique way, taught villagers to appreciate and understand the importance of both trees and girls. Reason why, just planting the saplings was not enough, as the family also had the responsibility to take care of the trees just like they did for their daughters.
Over the past six years, people have managed to plant over a quarter million trees, which included neem, sheesham, mango, amla among others.

Apart from this, at the time of the birth of a girl child, INR 10000 from the girl’s parents and INR 31000 from donors and Bhamashahs are collected and put in a fixed deposit (FD) account.
