Indian Railways is looking to undertake maintenance works on Sundays across all its zones. So travellers, who are scheduled to travel this coming Sunday, must keep an eye out for their respective train’s running status. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has however said that if a passenger train does get delayed, the passengers travelling with reserved tickets would be provided with free food and water.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said, "We will be combining the works from across the zones and try to carry out maximum maintenance work on Sundays. We will work towards passenger engagement, creating awareness among the passengers, informing them in advance.
The Indian Railways will develop a new time table, which will come into effect from August 15, 2018. While Sundays will see the majority of work happening, which means bigger blocks, weekdays will have smaller blocks. Sundays would require 5-6 hours of work, as per the information, and weekdays will see a maximum of 2-3 hours.
The decision for mega blocks on Sundays has been taken after it was seen that fewer passengers travel on Sundays, when compared to other days. Additional trains would be arranged for to make up for the delays.
