As per the notification, the pilot-in-command may permit the access of Internet services by passengers on board an aircraft in flight, through Wi-Fi onboard, when laptop, smartphone, tablet, smartwatch, e-reader or point-of-sale device is used in flight or airplane mode.
As per the reports, many airlines across the world are already offering this service to passengers, which till date, had to switch off the facility when they entered the Indian airspace. Air France, AirAsia, Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Egypt Air, Air New Zealand are among the 30 airlines that already allow passengers to use mobile phones on aircraft.
