Head to an iconic city landmark – Plaza de Cibeles is one of the most beautiful squares in Madrid. It sits at the intersection of Calle de Alcalá, Paseo de Recoletos, and Paseo del Prado. Plaza de Cibeles receives its name from the Cibeles Palace, and the Cibeles Fountain which stands in front of the palace. The fountain of Cibeles is a unique fountain which features goddess Cybele sitting on a chariot pulled by two lions. Designed in 1782, the statue is an iconic symbol of Madrid. The square is surrounded by four prominent buildings of Cibeles Palace, Bank of Spain, Linares Palace, and Buenavista Palace. Built in 20th centuries, the white neoclassical building of Cibeles Palace is the most striking landmark on the square. The palace serves as Madrid City Hall now. While the Linares Palace houses the the Casa de América, Buenavista Palace serves as Spanish army’s headquarter. Hang out at Plaza de Cibeles and marvel at the beautiful architecture which line-up the square. The plaza comes alive at night, when the lights illuminate the majestic structure of Palacio de Comunicaciones, and Fuente de la Cibeles.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
