Talk of the town: East Vancouver didn't get proper sidewalks until 1962, 30 years after the original wooden planks had been removed.

Also known as the 'east side', this district occupies an area more than four times the size of downtown. East to west from Chinatown to Burnaby, and north to south from the Burrard Inlet to the Fraser River, East Vancouver covers the cultural neighborhoods of Little Italy, Little India and Little Japan and is impossible to define.
The fashionable Commercial Drive district between 15th and Powell Street is one of the main hubs, with its mix of cultures and close-knit community groups. The shopping areas of Kingsway, Fraser Street and Hastings Street have strong Chinese, Italian and Indian influences (the Punjabi Market between E 48th and E 51st is definitely worth investigating), then mid-Main Street dominates the extreme eastern border with West Side, offering many antique shops, boutique stores and busy restaurants.

Since 2002, when the Millennium Line transit was built through the area, East Vancouver has flourished and continues to act as a breeding ground for successful businesses and profitable real estate.
