Dubai landmarks get lit in blue on World Autism Awareness Day

On April 2, 2020, World Autism Awareness Day, major landmarks in Dubai lit up in blue. The Dubai Media Office shared photographs of Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa on Twitter. According to reports, the Ministry of Community Development has developed the theme, From Transition to Adulthood. This has been done with a set of initiatives and events, which targeted autistic children, families and parents, autism centres, and even communities. The campaign is going to run throughout the month of April.
The decision to take this step has been in line with the idea of making 2020 related to the transition of autism children to adulthood by the United Nations. Developed by the Ministry of Community Development, this is going to bring the focus on the importance of the participation of youth culture. Moreover, this will also allow community self-determination, the process of decision making, help in the access to higher education, and provide employment opportunities.
According to a member of the Ministry of Community Development, the ministry is working to promote services, and initiatives that will allow people with autism to participate in the community. It was also noted that the UAE’s efforts are always proactive, and pioneering when it comes to providing welfare and rehabilitation to its people. It provides all the necessary guidelines for parents to check their children for any early symptoms of autism, and help achieve sustainable community awareness regarding autism.
