It is the dinosaur capital of the world and located just a few hours from Calgary, making it the right distance for a weekend getaway. This weekend getaway is best done with kids as there are plenty of activities to keep them entertained for days. Start off by visiting the visitors’ centre which features a humungous T-Rex dinosaur out front. Here the kids will love having their picture taken next to it and parents can get a good idea of all the things that they can do in the area. Driving out to the Hoodoos is an important part of a weekend getaway in Drumheller, these unique formations look more like a landscape on the planet Mars than anything else. A path leads visitors around them and kids are encouraged to climb and explore around them in certain areas. The Royal Dinosaur Museum is another must see in Drumheller and kids can watch as real paleontologists are at work discovering new fossils. Accommodations range from hotels to campgrounds to cottages and inns, there is something here no matter what your budget is and the same goes for dining options.
