This is what happened when a man from UP travelled on cycle for 850 km to get married

The wedding season in India is still on, and sadly, so is the lockdown to control the Coronavirus. Yet, many couples in India can’t wait to get married at a later date. Many of them have chosen to tie the knot virtually, while others are keeping the wedding rituals restricted to their home with only their parents in attendance.
Interestingly, a man from Uttar Pradesh, who was supposed to get married recently exercised his will power to cycle 850 km to reach his hometown even under lockdown. Sonu Kumar Chauhan, a worker in a tile factory in Ludhiana, had to marry on April 15. Yet, in the absence of no other vehicle to travel from Ludhiana to Uttar Pradesh, he made a bicycle his trusted companion, and along with three friends, the man started pedalling all the way to Pipra Rasulpur in Maharajganj district.


It took the group nearly seven days of cycling from morning to evening till they reached Balrampur district in Uttar Pradesh, which is 150 km from Sonu’s hometown. As fate would have it, police officials caught hold of Sonu and his friends for breaking the lockdown, and sent them to the nearest quarantine centre.
According to the news reports, despite Sonu’s persistent efforts, the police are not releasing him from their custody. Apparently, the 24-year-old young man is disappointed with the whole string of events.

SP Balrampur, Devranjan Verma, told the press that Sonu and his friends will be permitted to leave only if their test reports turn out to be negative in the next 14 days.
