Direct flights from Guwahati to Dhaka from July 1

Guwahati is all set to get its first international flight under the International Air Connectivity Scheme (IACS). This will be the first flight under the said scheme, which is also referred to as the International Udaan scheme. The first flight will be the Guwahati-Dhaka flight, which will commence its journey from July 1.

As per the latest reports, the promotional one-way trip between Guwahati and Dhaka will cost you around INR 3355.
Under the Assam Government’s initiative, private carrier SpiceJet was selected in January to start operating flight services to Dhaka and Bangkok. The state government, to ensure this plan, is also providing an annual viability gap funding of INR 11 crore for the said routes.

Initially, Assam proposed that Guwahati be connected to six overseas tourist destinations, such as Kuala Lumpur, Yangon, Bangkok, Dhaka, Singapore, and Kathmandu. However, that plan was lost midway, when bids for only two routes were received. However, there are plans to start direct flight routes on the said routes too.
An official from the Civil Aviation Ministry, referring to this development, said bids for more routes will be considered in the near future after a detailed assessment is carried out on how the flight services on the two routes pan out.
Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Pranjit Singha Roy said that flights between the northeastern states and other important cities of Bangladesh will promote and tourism. To begin with, while the first flight from Guwahati to Dhaka will start from July 1, whereas another direct flight to Bangkok will commence after August 15.

Work is in progress to upgrade the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, and also construct a new terminal to enable it to operate more international flights from there.
