One must definitely visit Dhordo village during the Rann Utsav, but one can visit the village on the other days as well. The salt desert isn’t going anywhere, the charm of the place isn’t fading away anytime soon.
If you are curious about the Rann Utsav, it is a grand celebration that attracts visitors from all over the world. During this festival, visitors can enjoy cultural performances, folk music and dance, camel rides, traditional handicrafts, and delicious local cuisine. The festival usually takes place around the last week of October, and goes on till the third week of February.
Apart from the festival, Dhordo is known for its breathtaking landscapes. As mentioned earlier, the vast white salt desert stretches as far as the eye can see. It can be quite an otherworldly experience! You can do camel safaris or jeep rides to go see the far stretches of the desert and finally witness the stunning sunsets. They say the nights are pretty amazing too. The starlit sky is at its best.
If you love to pick knick-knacks from your travels, you will love Dhordo. It’s a haven for exquisite handicrafts and textiles. Dhordo provides an opportunity to explore and purchase authentic handcrafted items such as embroidered textiles and the famous copper bells. The hand-painted fabric (Rogan) from Dhordo is a must-have, and so is the lacquer art on wood.
With so many goodies around, all we can say is – when you travel to Dhordo, travel light.
