Dharavi tops in India, also scores in the top 10 Asian attractions

If you thought that the Taj Mahal is the most favoured attraction in India, there is a big surprise in store. As per a recent survey conducted by TripAdvisor, Dharavi, the famous slum in Mumbai tops the list, beating the likes of Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and many others. Dharavi is the one of the largest slums in the world; it is spread over 200 ac and is one of the most densely populated areas in the country with 869565 people per square mile.

What makes Dharavi even more of a contrast is the fact that it hardly six km away from the Bandra-Kurla complex, which is regarded as one of the richest business districts in Asia! A number of tour operators conduct small group tours in Dharavi now. Tourists flock here from all over the world, lured by the contrasts present here, including an underground economy that stays off the record of all commercial activities. A number of houses in the slum area are open to curious visitors, who are often amazed by the sheer number that these one room houses accommodate.
Such is the fascination for Dharavi as a tourist attraction that it has toppled the Taj Mahal as well. Trailing it in the second position is Old Delhi bike tour, followed by day tours of Agra and the Taj Mahal via superfast trains. In the Asian ranking, Dharavi ranks at number 10; Ubud tours top the list for the continent as per the survey.
