Dhanushkodi, a ghost town in Tamil Nadu, is a fast emerging tourist getaway. A very different experience, this town was devastated by a massive cyclone in the 1964, a tragedy that left more than 1800 people dead. It is inhabited by some 500 fishermen now. Remnants of the town as it existed before the tragedy lures visitors to it. You can go on a jeep safari with one of the inhabitants and explore remains of a school and a hospital, office buildings and sand-covered rail tracks. Other than its popularity as a ghost town, Dhanushkodi is a major point of reverence for Hindus. It is believed to be the place where Hindu God Rama built a bridge to Sri Lanka, a major event in Ramayana.
