The fort’s past, dating back as far as 15th century, creates the necessary aura and ambience to prepare you for history lessons. Apart from this aspect, this spot also serves as a picnic spot in case you just want to get some time off from your busy schedule.
Located at just 35 km north of Bangalore, Devanahalli Fort makes for a good road or weekend trip. There are around 12 bastions at the fort, where you can walk till the edge and act as a warrior. The main attraction is, however, the chief residence of Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali.
The architecture of the fort will amaze you beyond words; in fact, it will help you understand the defence mechanism that the rulers of those times used to have. The fort has small hideouts too, which you should explore while you are there. These probably were used during the times of emergency. Then there are small openings on the wall to offer beautiful panoramic views of the landscape outside.
When inside the Devanahalli Fort, you will find various temples as well. After strolling around the fort and exploring all those small hideouts, you can opt to take some rest in a store for a soft drink and snacks.
On your way back to Bangalore, you can even make a pit stop at Nandi Hills.
Will recommend this place to history buffs and to those who are always up for offbeat travels.
