This temple offers darshanam of a unique reclining statue of Lord Hanuman. It is rare because of the yogic posture of Bhava Samadhi depicted in this place of worship. It is believed that Lord Hanuman rested here while carrying the mountain with Sanjeevani for Lakshmana. Another legend goes that when Bhadrasena, the king of Bhadravati, was in a deep state of trance while singing prayers to Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman was enchanted and stopped by to listen to the hymns and took the restful posture of Bhava Samadhi. King Bhadrasena is said to have requested Lord Hanuman to make a permanent stay bless his and Lord Rama's devotees in Bhadravati—what is now known as Khuldabad. After the area fell to the Mughals, the temple was destroyed completely. However, the idol of Lord Hanuman is said to have been rescued successfully and kept hidden for centuries. In the 1960s, locals took the initiative to construct this temple in marble and reinstate the idol to its rightful place. Today, Shri Bhadra Maruti Samsthanam overlooks the operation of the temple. The temple's parking area comes as a boon for the relatively narrow lanes of Khuldabad one has to navigate to get here. Expect crowds on Saturdays, as followers of Lord Hanuman throng this temple. On the way back from Ellora to Aurangabad city, make a short detour towards Khuldabad to visit this site.
