Locals might talk to you about the festival of Shigmo and its unique association with Damodar temple. The town celebrates Gulalotsav with missionary fervour. Gulalotsav makes Zambaulim witness a riot of colours. In a way, it is Goa's answer to Mathura's celebration of the festival of Holi in the months of March or April (date is based on Hindu calendar). So if you happen to be in Goa around this time of the year, do not forget to drive south to Zambaulim and partake in this unique celebration. Tip: If you want to offer flower garlands to the deity, make sure to buy these from the temple complex itself. These are sewn using a special thread made of banana leaves. Temple authorities prohibit use of flowers bought from elsewhere.
