RBI Monetary Museum

Money has always played an important part in the history of a country, and India is no different. Through the centuries, the system of trade and exchange has evolved from the barter system to coins, notes and now, credit cards. The Reserve Bank of India has made an effort to preserve the monetary heritage of our country in the Monetary Museum. Located right opposite the Reserve Bank of India building in Fort, Monetary Museum takes us through the systems of trade and barter, coins of various Indian dynasties and changes in currency. The exhibits are designed to capture everyone’s interest—from children to adults. These exhibits include different types of coins across dynasties, medieval India, pre-British, British and modern-day India; paper currencies over the years; gold bars and other instruments of financial transaction. There are also interactive displays with quizzes and slideshows for children.
Note: Closed on Monday and bank holidays. Entry free for all.
