China has now lifted the travel ban that it had earlier put on South Korea. The relationship between the two nations went sour earlier this year in March, when South Korea started deploying Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system. China, considering it a threat to its own military capabilities, had applied a list of restrictions on South Korea.
Zhang, an employee at Huanyu Yuntong International Travel Agency said, "We just received the notice today." She said that tourism bureau is now letting them send groups to South Korea.
However, the ban end still appears restricted in some areas as some of the tour operators major Chinese cities informed that they were still unable to book group visits to South Korea.
Foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said, "We hope the two sides will create an enabling environment and conditions for our friendly exchange". He also said that he had no idea of the travel ban when he was asked about it at a press briefing.
