Palampur is popularly known as the tea capital of northern India. There are lush tea gardens spread over vast acres of land. Bundla Tea Estate, established in 1860, is one of the most beautiful tea estates here and spans over the panchayats of Bundla, Aima and Lohna. The history of tea gardens in Palampur is quite interesting. The first commercial tea plantation was done at Palampur in 1852 after Dr. Jameson visited Kangra and realised that the slopes of the Dhauladhar range are ideal for tea cultivation. He was the superintendent of the botanical tea gardens. The seeds that were planted here were brought from China. If you want to see lush gardens and people plucking tea leaves then visit Palampur between April and October.
