Bull Temple, also known as Dodda Basavana Gudi and Nandi Temple, is one of the oldest and prominent places of worship in Bangalore. It was built in the year 1537 by the founder of Bangalore Kempe Gowda. Situated at Basavanagudi, this temple is dedicated to the mount of Lord Shiva and holds a great religious significance among the Hindu community. It is believed that this holy place was built to appease a wild bull that used to destroy groundnuts and peanuts cultivated in the region. Inside the temple, there’s a mammoth 4.5 m high and 6.5 m long statue of Nandi Bull, which is carved out of a single stone. Each year in the Hindu month of Karthika, the temple hosts the famous ‘Kadalekai Parishe’ (Groundnut Fair) which is attended by hundreds of devotees.
