When you first visit the Huon Valley, which is a 40-minute drive away from the CBD in Hobart, it’s easy to feel as if you’ve stumbled upon the Garden of Eden. You can begin by eating the not-forbidden apple, and all permutations of apple products at The Apple Shed, a museum and cider house. And that’s as good an introduction to the Huon Valley as any, for the valley is all farmland, orchard, winery, and native forest. There are numerous ways to explore its natural bounty. There’s white-water jet boating, through the gentle rapids, and shingle beds of the Huon River. Pedal boats, aqua bikes, and canoes are popular options too. Swinging and steady bridges across the river let you know if you have a head for heights, as well as treat you to beguiling views of the tree canopy. There’s also the chance to hang-glide through the trees.
