The half-an-hour walk across the Brooklyn Bridge—which runs over the East River and connects Lower Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn—is one of the city's most scenic experiences. When this neo-Gothic structure was completed in 1883, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. It’s still considered to be an engineering marvel, with striking views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York harbour at every step. There are separate pedestrian and cycling walkways running along the bridge.
