A trip inside the world of nuclear energy – Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN) is a European organisation for Nuclear Research based outside Geneva. CERN is home to the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. Founded in 1954, CERN has been instrumental in high-energy physics research focusing on particle accelerators. The Large Hadron Collider inside the laboratory is the world's biggest machine. The Globe of Science is the 27 m high globe with diameter of 40 m, and it represents the planet earth. The permanent exhibition inside the Globe of Science and Innovation, and the Microcosm museum on particle physics are worth visiting. Take a guided tour and learn about the history of CERN, and also about the latest scientific developments. The activities and achievements of CERN are displayed through audio visual presentations. Book really in advance, as popular language tours can get booked months ahead. It is fascinating to watch the facilities such as the Synchro-cyclotron (CERN’s first particle accelerator), and the superconducting magnet workshop, and learn about how these matters of physics impact our daily lives.
