These destinations bear witness to centuries of human history, showcasing architectural marvels, ancient civilisations, and the enduring legacy of diverse cultures.
From intricately carved temples to ancient cities carved into cliffs, these historic sites invite travelers on a journey through time.
Angkor Wat, Cambodia
This monumental temple complex in Siem Reap, Cambodia, is the largest religious monument in the world. It was built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II. It originally served as a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu but was later transformed into a Buddhist temple.
Great Wall of China, China
When we talk of great architecture from around the world, the Great Wall of China always makes it to the list. This extraordinary feat of ancient engineering consists of various sections built over centuries to protect against invasions. The wall is approximately 21, 196 km long.

The popularity of Taj Mahal goes beyond borders. The Taj Mahal, also a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an architectural masterpiece. The structure was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Agra Fort, located in close proximity to the Taj Mahal, was the royal residence from where, it was believed, he looked at the Taj every day. If the story is true, it’s an endearing one.
Kyoto, Japan
The entire city of Kyoto is steeped in history. The former imperial capital of Japan boasts numerous temples, shrines, and traditional wooden houses. Kyoto's cultural treasures include the Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji), the Silver Pavilion (Ginkaku-ji), and the Fushimi Inari Shrine with its famous torii gate pathway.

Petra, Jordan
The historic city of Petra, also known as the Rose City, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient Nabatean city is carved into the rose-red cliffs of southern Jordan. The most famous structure is Al-Khazneh (The Treasury). It’s impossible to ignore the site’s remarkable architectural beauties.
Bagan, Myanmar
Bagan, located in central Myanmar, is an ancient city known for its vast plain dotted with over 2,000 temples and pagodas. The site dates back to the 9th to 13th centuries, and offers a unique and enchanting landscape, especially during sunrise or sunset when the temples are bathed in a warm golden glow. The most popular way to enjoy this site is to go for a hot air balloon ride.
Gyeongbokgung Palace, South Korea
Gyeongbokgung, located in Seoul, is the largest and most iconic of the Five Grand Palaces built during the Joseon Dynasty. The palace complex includes the impressive Geunjeongjeon Hall, the Gyeonghoeru Pavilion overlooking a serene pond, and the changing of the guard ceremony at the main gate.
