Beijing’s futuristic Daxing International Airport begins operations from today

Daxing International, Beijing's latest airport, was inaugurated by President Xi Jinping today, ahead of the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, which is celebrated every year on October 1. The star-shaped airport has the world's largest terminal in a single building and it is expected that the terminal will receive around 170 million flyers by the year 2025.
As per sources, seven domestic airlines might start functioning out of China’s new Daxing airport from 25 September. The first airline’s flight that took off from the airport was China Southern Airlines A380 at 16:23 (local time). Several international airlines, such as Cathay Pacific, British Airways and Finnair, among others have already announced their plans for Daxing.
Spread across 700000 sqm (which is equal to the area of 98 football fields), this gorgeous airport is situated around 46 km south of Tiananmen Square. The classy airport was designed by late Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid.
As of now, Beijing Capital International Airport, is the world's second busiest airport after Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta. The new airport in Beijing is supposed to ease off the current passenger pressure from the existing one.
Also, with the inauguration of Daxing airport, Beijing has made it to the list of world cities having two-long haul international airports, which already includes New York and London. Chances are that this futuristic airport might in future also become the busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic beating Atlanta.
