The Banashankari Temple is located in the sleepy village of Amargol about 9 km from Hubli, about 4 km away from Chandramouleshwara Temple. It is dedicated to goddess Parvati who is also known by the name Banashankari. Dating back to the 13th century, this temple was built by the Chalukyas and features a distinct Nagara and Dravida influence in its architecture. The temple has two shrines; one houses the main deity, Devi Banashankari, and the other houses a Shiva Linga. This temple features wonderful examples of stone sculpting and has a beautiful Navaranga Mandapa besides intricately carved pillars showcasing Hindu Gods, including Shiva, Vishnu, Narasimha, Ganapathi, and Brahma among others. Currently, the temple is undergoing restoration, roads are under construction and sign boards are being made to make this place easily accessible.
