Moti Doongri Ganesh Temple, Jaipur

Moti Doongri is hill which is flanked by the Pink City of Jaipur. The word Moti Doongri translates into a hill made of pearl because of its striking resemblance to a pearl drop. It is famous for the beautiful shrine of Lord Ganesh that was made by Seth Jai Ram Paliwal in the 18^th century. This is one of the most significant temples in Jaipur.
Long ago, the Raja of Mewar was travelling in a bullock cart carrying a massive idol of Ganesh Bhagwan. He has decided in his mind that he would install the idol at a place where the cart halted. As fate would have it, the card stopped at the foot of Moti Doongri Hill in Jaipur.

The hill has a lovely palace located at the peak which is a replica of a Scottish castle. Once upon a time, it served as a royal residence of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh. Even today, the ownership of the castle is with the royal family of Jaipur.
