Auto drivers in Bengaluru turn into delivery boys amid COVID-19 shutdown

Amid the Coronavirus lockdown, auto drivers in Bengaluru have taken the responsibility of delivering essentials such as groceries and medicines to people. A city-based social organisation called the Three Wheels United (a tech-driven finance firm for light electric vehicles, including autos) has launched an initiative for auto drivers to provide door-to-door deliveries of essential supplies to residents who are in vulnerable conditions.

The company tweeted about the service and said that the auto drivers have been looped in for the service that might be free-of-cost or would charge a nominal fee.
As the whole country is under a lockdown situation, the auto riders have no means of earning as there are no riders on the roads. The auto-rickshaw drivers’ revenue has gone down due to decreased activities and hence the social organisation has extended a helping hand by providing them with an opportunity to earn minimum income during these tough times.


The brilliant initiative comes when the government has declared a total shutdown to curb the increasing numbers of Coronavirus positive cases in the country. The company, other than supporting the auto drivers, is also helping individuals, especially old people by providing them with essential services. It is also helping local shops make money by connecting them to consumers in need.
The delivery service will either be provided free of cost or at a very low cost. It is mostly for vulnerable people who are either old, disabled, or belong to those who fall in the lower-income group. As of now, Karnataka has 55 positive COVID-19 cases; among these, 32 cases are from Bengaluru. So, staying at home is the only effective option to break the virus chain.

The initiative in Bengaluru is a perfect example of mixing compassion with practical initiatives.
