Pushkar city is known for its religious and spiritual important. It has the only prominent temple of Lord Brahma in the world and an ancient lake named after the city which is believed to an absolver of sins. In addition, Pushkar also has a temple of goddess Savitri (Gayatri) and a few temples of Lord Shiva such as Sri Panchkund Shiva Temple made by the Pandava brothers about 5000 years ago or so. However, the 12th century shrine of Lord Shiva called Atmateshwar Temple is quite unique indeed. It is an underground shrine known for its intricate Hemadpanti architectural carvings rendering an appealing look to it. Countless devotees throng this temple on auspicious days such as Shivratri, and in the month of Shravana to worship Lord Shiva.
