Mani dam and Kavaledurga are day one destinations with the ride starting from Thirthahalli. Head out of the small sleepy town on the Thirthahalli-Agumbe road. After about 7 km, turn right to leave the hustling traffic and ride towards Mani Dam. Constructed across Varahi River, Mani Dam acts as the main water supply for hydro-power plant. After spending time in the backwaters of the dam, it is time to head back in time to 9th century. The next stop is Kavaledurga, a fort constructed by rulers of the Keladi kingdom that served as their residence. The fort has three lines of walls and is constructed of huge granite blocks. From the top of the fort, one gets to see the vastness of Mani reservoir and also Chakra reservoir (which is located close to Mani). Day two is a short ride, which takes us from Thirthahalli to Kuppali, the birthplace of renowned Kannada writer and poet 'Kuvempu'. A stroll around the birth house of Kuvempu (now turned into a museum) takes us back in time by giving us a glimpse of the lifestyle at that time. Kavishaila, a small rock monument next to the house, gives a panoramic view of the area with all greenery around.
