Northeast India’s extraordinary biodiversity encompasses lush forests, verdant hills, and rivers. There are iconic wildlife parks that are not only places with several species of flora and fauna, but are also conservation success stories. This iconic national park in Assam is world-famous for its population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Kaziranga National Park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and houses the largest number of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros in the world. In terms of conservation of this species, Kaziranga is one incredible success story.

Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Manas National Park is known for its population of the Bengal tiger, Indian elephant, the critically endangered pygmy hog and the Bengal Florican, and the Gee’s langur. Manas is the only known home for the pygmy hogs.

Nameri National Park is also a tiger reserve, and is one of the best places where you can spot the big cat in its natural habitat. The forest and the river of Nameri National Park provides a safe home for several species of animals that are endemic to the region.

Dibru-Saikhowa is a birder’s paradise. The forest and the water bodies are home to several species of birds, both migratory and residents. The star attraction of this national park is the elusive white-winged wood duck. These critically endangered birds are found only here and they are pretty tough to find. This national park also houses a small yet important population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Orang National Park is located right on the periphery of Mayong village, popular for witchcraft, black magic and other such occult practices.

This national park in Mizoram is known for its diverse collection of plant species. Here you will find various species of orchids and rhododendrons. When in season, this protected forest turns into a floral wonderland.

Nokrek National Park is one of the least visited national parks in India. This national park is one of the biodiversity heritage sites in the world. The lush forest of Nokrek is home to the wild oranges Citrus indica, the parent species of all cultivated citrus species. Here, you will also find the elusive red panda.

Famous as the world's one and only floating national park, Keibul Lamjao National Park is also the last sanctuary for the endangered sangai deer. This national park is a part of the famous Loktak Lake.

Also a Tiger Reserve, Namdapha National Park is most famous for its big cats – Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Clouded Leopard. Here, you will also find Hoolock Gibbons, India's only ape species, pig-tailed macaques and stump-tailed macaques.
