The Al Wahbah Crater in Saudi Arabia is a perfect example of what we say ‘beauty can be found in any form anywhere, where you least expect them!’ At present, this photogenic crater is one of the prime tourist attractions in Saudi Arabia, which however receives very few visitors because of its slippery terrain. Read on to know more about this pretty wonder.
More about this natural wonder
For a long time, people thought that the crater is a result of a meteor strike, but much later, the geologists found out that it was a maar crater, formed by volcanic activity. As per soil experts, the crater was developed after a massive underground steam explosion. The explosion was caused when a volcanic magma mixed with a subterranean source of water. As a result, this crater now makes for an impressive huge hole on the surface of the planet Earth.
One of the prime features of the crater is definitely the solid white salt deposit, but what’s more interesting is the green vegetation surrounding the crater’s rim region. You’ll be amazed to see the green palm trees and shrubs that grows just around the edge of the crater while the whole desert remains barren, dry and baked. It’s miraculous and amazing to see how nature works.
Tourism
Getting to Al Wahbah Crater is not an easy task though. It takes more than 45 to 60 min to reach the bottom of the crater. And if you manage to reach down, the ‘climb up’ journey is full of hurdles as the surface is extremely slippery. Depending on a person’s stamina, it might take around 60 to 90 min approx to reach up. Also getting mobile phone signal inside the crater is quite difficult. Due to all these reasons, the site witnesses very few visitors. But a lot of adventure junkies have paved their ways in and out successfully.
