The wait is over – India’s first Contemporary Sculpture Park comes up in Jaipur’s Nahargarh Fort

While Rajasthan is a destination which turns into a favourite among travellers every winter, it is now home to an all-new tourist attraction in the form of India’s first ever Contemporary Sculpture Park. Expected to attract tourists in greater numbers, this first of its kind sculpture park is situated at Madhavendra Palace, within the famous Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur.

Opened for the public on December 10, this sculpture park boasts a collection of works by 24 artists, including 15 Indian artists. What makes this park an even bigger attraction for travellers is the fact that Madhavendra Palace, which is a 19th-century palace within the 18th-century fort, has been turned into a gallery housing magnificent sculptures.
Scheduled to be around till November 2018, this sculpture park is an initiative by the Rajasthan government in collaboration with an NGO, which aims to support the growth of international exchange between India and other parts of the world through visual arts and education.

Commenting on this sculpture park, curator Peter Nagy, who is also the director of Gallery Nature Morte in New Delhi, said, "For most of my career as a gallerist and curator, I have been trying to break away from the white box exhibition space. With this project, I am able to indulge my passions for art, architecture and décor, into a marvellous synthesis of the past and present."

Nahargarh Fort is already a popular destination in Jaipur and is visited by thousands of travellers from all parts of the world throughout the year. With the advent of this new sculpture park, we expect to see the footfall of tourists in this fort increase in considerable numbers.
