One of these is Bruges (Brugge in Dutch), a magnificently charming old town of dreamy canals, cobblestone lanes, picturesque squares, and artistic wonders. Beautifully lit in its evening light and equally stunning glowing in the morning sun, there’s nothing quite like this fairy-tale town (often nicknamed as Venice of the North). A unique destination in itself, Bruges is not something you’ll easily forget for its daffodil carpets during spring in the quarters of Begijnhof, and the centuries-old towers and ornate houses lined up along canals that run through the city. The capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders, the entire city centre of Bruges is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Opt for biking through the town’s cobblestone alleys or tread leisurely along the canal and you’ll fall hopelessly in love with this mythical, almost magical historic town.
