Often overlooked by people who visit Italy, Sardinia is simply irresistible. The second largest island of the Mediterranean, it is a mysterious and unique land. The island is definitely Italian by nationality, but a world apart in many senses. There are many things that make Sardinia special. Its culture is millenary and unique, and it is reflected in the language spoken, in the food, in the traditional economic activities, and in its festivals. The island is scattered with beautiful cities, picturesque villages, and fantastic archaeological sites, such as the famous Su Nuraxi. Yet, what makes people fall in love with Sardinia and visit again and again is its fantastic natural environs – mountains that have hiking trails galore, incredible climbing opportunities, and last but not least, fantastic beaches. There is no mistake that Sardinian beaches are among some of the best in the world. Whether they are long and sandy beaches with easy access or tiny coves that can only be reached via a strenuous hike, they are all gorgeous. Sardinian beaches can well stand the comparison with tropical ones – some even better than the tropical ones. There are so many amazing beaches in Sardinia that it would be impossible to mention them all, but here’s a guide to a few.
