7 things to always be careful of while taking a flight
Travel unveils the world's breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cultures, and rich histories, creating unique experiences every single time. Each destination, from the serene beaches to the bustling streets, offers a fresh perspective and a chance to rediscover oneself. To create these unique memories, to reach these amazing destinations that we are always talking about, we have all sorts of means of transport. Take flight for instance, the most popular and preferred means of transportation. It’s convenient and fast, no doubt, but to have a pleasant flight, one needs to keep certain things in mind.
Flight timings and delays
Regularly check your flight's status for any changes or delays. Use airline apps, notifications, and flight tracking services to stay updated. Arrive at the airport well in advance of your flight, typically two hours before for domestic flights and three hours for international flights. This allows time for check-in, security screening, and any unforeseen delays.
Luggage restrictions
Familiarise yourself with your airline's baggage policies, including weight and size limits for checked and carry-on luggage. Overweight or oversized baggage can result in additional fees. Review the list of prohibited items to ensure you’re not carrying anything that could be confiscated at security. Items like sharp objects, flammable materials, and certain liquids are not allowed in carry-on luggage.
Security procedures
Be ready for security checks by placing your electronics (laptops, tablets) and liquids in separate bins. Wear shoes that are easy to remove and avoid excessive metal jewellery or accessories that could set off alarms. This will speed up the security screening process.
Health and safety
Airplane cabins have low humidity, which can cause dehydration. Drink plenty of water before and during the flight. For long flights, try to move around the cabin periodically to improve circulation and reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Simple leg exercises and stretches in your seat can also help.
Travel documents
Keep your passport, boarding pass, visa (if required), and any other necessary travel documents in an easily accessible place, such as a travel wallet or a designated pocket in your carry-on bag. Make photocopies or digital scans of your important documents and keep them separate from the originals. This can be helpful in case of loss or theft.
Carry-on essentials
Pack critical items like medications, important documents, electronics (with chargers), and valuables in your carry-on. Also, include a change of clothes and basic toiletries in case your checked luggage is delayed or lost. Consider bringing items that will make your flight more comfortable, such as a neck pillow, eye mask, earplugs, or a travel blanket.
Connecting flights
Ensure that you have enough time between connecting flights. Aim for at least an hour for domestic connections and two hours for international connections to account for potential delays and the time needed to navigate through the airport. Familiarise yourself with the layout of the connecting airport, especially if it’s large or unfamiliar.
